Lethality Mapper is a Microsoft Excel Add-In developed by SGM Biotech, Inc. to assist validation engineers in determining least lethal locations in a sterilizer load. Given F-value data points entered directly into Excel, the Add-In creates simple yet powerful 2D and 3D “lethality maps.”

The software creates these lethality maps as standard Excel charts from data entered directly into Excel itself, leaving the organization free to create and define its own data-collection templates and utilize the full analysis power of Microsoft Excel.

How it Works

Using the Lethality Mapper Add-In itself is straightforward and requires little operator effort. To begin, the user simply enters data into Excel in such a manner as to represent the original physical placement of thermocouples within the layer being analyzed. For example, a technician might collect data from a layer in a hypothetical (and very small) sterilizer that has nine product locations, like so:

Charting the F-value data from this rather trivial layer using Lethality Mapper is then very simple:

The charts created by Lethality Mapper can be modified to appear however the technician wishes. Also, the original data set is saved, and empirical points in the ‘filled in’ data set are never modified. This makes Lethality Mapper a safe and effective tool for visually analyzing the spore destruction characteristics of a sterilizer and demonstrating the “most difficult to sterilize” positions in a load configuration.
